Every town has them. The little hidden Mom & Pop gems hidden away in the nooks and crannies of the city. Chic A Dee Cafe is one such place.
As far as restaurants go, they’re a little off the beaten path. They’re located on east 6th St in Topeka, across the street and just a bit west of the Reser’s plant. Truth be told, it is one that I probably never would have thought of had it not been a favorite of my parents for years. After I moved to Topeka and started eating there with my Mom, it also became a favorite of mine.
What they do is unpretentious and straight-forward Midwestern diner food. They do it well. I’d recommend their burgers and grilled sandwiches, in particular. The patty melt is my Go To, along with a side of their house made potato chips. I alternately like to get their sweet potato fries with a side of blue cheese dressing for dipping.
