Mmm… Ice cream!
We popped over to Lawrence to have a late night dessert at Sylas & Maddy’s. (1014 Massachusetts St.) I had been reading about it on Yelp and thought it would be fun to try. Good ice cream. Very good ice cream, in fact. This would be a great place to stop in for a treat after an afternoon of exploring Mass St. I did find the flavors to be just a little on the expected side… but that really is just nitpicking. The quality of their ingredients, including the flavorings, is fresh and… natural, I guess I would say. In this world of synthetic strawberry flavoring, it is an eye-opener when you taste strawberry that is so fresh and real.
One fun thing… you can get a 5 flavor sampler if, like me, you’re feeling indecisive. My understanding is that they’ll let you try the flavors before committing but I hate to do that when there is a line forming behind me. I tried out grasshopper, gold dust, strawberry cheesecake, dark espresso roast and the dark side. All were tasty but the dark espresso roast was a standout for me. (I love a good coffee ice cream.) I drug my mother along for the ride and she got a turtle sundae with sweet cream ice cream. She said it was quite tasty.
I guess Sylas and Maddy’s falls into the “out shopping in Lawrence, hey, let’s stop for ice cream!” category but didn’t quite make it into the “family is visiting, let’s drive over to Lawrence for some ice cream” group.
