Call it comfort food… call it what you will. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t like a good grilled cheese. The Wheel Barrel specializes in this classic, giving it a more upscale twist.
It has been a while since I’ve posted about a restaurant on this blog. (Most of my eating out has been mentioned over on Hungry in Topeka.) After thinking about it for a while, I thought this would be the perfect place to mention. I’ve had several meals there in the last few months and none of them have disappointed.
Shall I try to sum them up in three words? Mmmm. Cheesy. Goodness.
If I were to make a recommendation for a single meal there, I’d tell you to go with an empty stomach and a designated driver. Start out with the pretzel and queso app. It is fantastic. Then, if the special doesn’t grab you in all the right places, get yourself a Monte Cristo. Served with blackberry jam on the site, it is nothing short of indulgent. And while you’re at it, chat with the bartender for a few minutes. If you don’t have a drink in mind, she can make a few recommendations or even whip something up just for you. That pink drink below? That’s no cosmo. Oh no. That is lemon verbena and raspberry infused gin with champagne and a splash of lemonade. And did I mention that they infuse their own spirits?
Located in NOTO, they’re currently one of my Go To places to take friends from out of town or just to grab a delicious lunch before heading back to the office on a weekend.
