At long last, the VW quilt is done. As I type this, it is on its way to my brother. So, whew. One less WIP in the craft room.
Here is the finished project:

Will We Ever Kill The Bug? Finished Project
I have mixed feelings about this quilt. I have to admit that I nearly cried when it came back from the longarm quilter. Not tears of joy. I had some serious buyer’s remorse about the pattern I selected. I had expected that it would be quilted a little more densely. The pattern was also skewed out of proportion a bit and it was quilted vertically not horizontally. It just didn’t add the polish that longarm quilting usually gives.
This was, in a lot of ways, the quilt project that I have been most excited about to date. For the quilting to be such a letdown probably compounded my disappointment. I wish I had just saved the money and done some straight line quilting myself. Or followed up with my original intention of having custom quilting done. That would have been pricey but I think it would have made me happier. Since this is based on a vintage ad, my original thought was to do some quilting that would emulate a halftone dot.
But in the end, this was the pattern I chose and the following pic is a close up detail of the actual quilting.

On a more positive note, I did what was probably the best binding job of my life. So at least there is that! 🙂
